Chapter 5: Hand-On Configurations for broadband NetPhone through Firewall

  • This is an example of configuring customer’s broadband router. In stead of opening a range of ports for VoIP traffic, customers with limited computer skill can just put his NetPhone on DMZ server. The following is a screen shot from a NetGear router. All brand name broadband routers have similar configuration. Find out NetPhone’s IP address from phone menu and input the IP address into “Default DMZ server?then click “Apply? All traffic points to this IP address will not be filtered in order to have a good voice quality. All packets point to other IP addresses still screened by firewall policies to ensure network security.
